The event formerly known as the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard disappeared this year, kind of like the name of another formerly known as that became a symbol. Something like that happened at the Brickyard this year, it used to be a race, this year it was just dust in the wind, rubber dust. We have all heard the story of the week, bad tires. no wear. cautions every ten laps, all the bad publicity and negative reactions to the actions that transpired at Indianapolis. But somewhere, buried deep in all the finger pointing and media antics that go along with such a monumental disaster in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series, something else happened that may be just as monumental as the disaster itself. NASCAR took the blame, and actually apologized for what took place. Oh, I am sorry, I should have told you to sit down before making such a statement, I hope that nasty bump on your head goes away in a few days from your head hitting the floor. Yes, for the first time in all the years I have been watching NASCAR, there were no excuses, no reasoning out of a bad call, o decision after the decision, NASCAR officials just up and said they were sorry for what took place, and they would do everything they could to investigate the events of the day and get to the bottom of the issue. Wow! Who would have seen that coming?

With the huge explosion of NASCAR racing die cast and the promotion of every new paint scheme, driver, size, and shape the demand has been constant, and the designs ever changing. That is just the tip of the iceberg, as they say. There are purists and hobbyists who modify and build their own diecast pieces, down to the finest paint details and the most accurate representation of their favorites and heroes. The collectors, both novice and seasoned need only to do a quick search and according to Google, about 513,000 results for racing NASCAR die-cast Racing Collectibles and Diecast - A Hobby and A Passion come up. and if the actual die cast items were not enough, there are books, blogs, and articles such as this one dedicated to the art of die-cast collecting whether it be racing or otherwise. Cars, trucks, boats, almost any vehicle can be found in a collectible form, and the need to have one is in the eye of the collector.

Here are a few tips from an avid collector:

1) Pace yourself! Odds are if there is one out there today, there will be one out there tomorrow.

2) Set a budget. It may sound silly, but it is worth the effort to establish some limitations. It will improve the quality of what you shop for, because you take the time to look around.

4) If you can manage the time to do it, catalog and store the results so you can refer to it later. Spreadsheet, database, taking advantage of you best friend’s geeky computer skills, what ever it takes, it will be worth it in the long run to prevent the ever looming duplicate purchases.
